X-Chat Aqua
From Applepedia
X-Chat Aqua is a MacOS X IRC client. If you are familiar with XChat for UNIX/GTK+/X Windows, then you will be at home with X-Chat Aqua. X-Chat Aqua uses the IRC engine from XChat and has been designed to look and feel like XChat.

Replacement Palette
For some reason, the default color palette in X-Chat Aqua 0.14.0 (and probably later) is an ugly-looking piece of crap. Yablo figured out how to fix it. The fix makes the background black and the text colours to match that.
[edit]
Installation
- Quit X-Chat
- Edit ~/.xchat2/palette.conf to contain nothing
- Paste the contents of palette.conf
- Open X-Chat again.
- You can now actually read your text.

Scripts
[edit]
xchatgrowl
kalleboo wrote an X-Chat plugin that uses Growl to show a notification when someone uses your name in a channel you've joined.
[edit]
Installation
- Download the script: http://gbsfm.info/~admin/stuff/xchatgrowl.pl
- Edit the script (this can be done in TextEdit or TextWrangler) and change 'kalleboo' to your IRC nickname; Save
- Save the script to /Applications/X-Chat Aqua/Plugins/
- In X-Chat or X-Chat Aqua, click File > Load plugin or script... and select xchatgrowl.pl and it will automatically be loaded every time you start X-Chat Aqua
If you want to manually load the script for your current session only, type /load xchatgrowl.pl in the message composition box in X-Chat
