Tiger FAQ

The font anti-aliasing looks all weird?
You're on an LCD right? Tiger adds a new "Automatic - best for main display" option to the Font smoothing style in System Preferences and it's selected by default. Because you're on some kind of LCD it's picking "Medium - best for flat panel" which looks horrible. Set it back to "Standard - best for CRT" (the default before Tiger) and I'll bet it'll look like what you're used to.
Where is StuffIt?
If you do a fresh install, you will find that StuffIt is not included in Tiger; however, the only archive format that you need it for is .sit. Since you'll be given a huge runaround trying to find the download for it on their site, get it here: Stuffit Standard 9.0.2. It still sucks and steals file associations, so only install it if you need .sit support.

Should I uninstall Quicksilver or LaunchBar and use Spotlight instead?
Although some users might like Spotlight better because it's faster and less a hog than Quicksilver, you'll probably miss the extensive features. Try it and see. One suggestion is to use command-space for Launchbar or Quicksilver while using option-space for Spotlight (set it in Spotlight Preferences).
I backed up my mail, did a fresh install of Tiger, and tried to import the mailboxes back into the new Mail.app. My mailboxes are there, but what happened to my mail?
One fix on "MacOSX Hints" This suggests using the "Other..." option to import mail. Apparently, Mail doesn't like the older mbox format when it tries to parse throught it. Selecting "Other" should fix that problem.
Blinkz0rz also posted a fix in the Megathread.
"I sort of had the same problem, but I figured out how to solve it. Essentially, Mail does not see any message (*.emlx) that sits in it's mailbox folders. It sees messages that come in through Mail and then Mail.app stores them in the Messages folder in ~/Library/Mail/POP-blahblah@blahblah/MAILBOX.mbox/Messages
The problem is that on a fresh install, Mail has nothing to point to and say "yeah, these are messages that we're importing" because the app doesn't search mbox directories for actual message information. Instead, you need to open each and every single .emlx file that you have in your MAILBOX.mbox/Messages folder. Mail is the default handler for .emlx so it will open the messages and in opening them, it will place them in the proper mailbox."
The reason is because Mail.app needs another library to find the messages. D'oh!
