TeXShop is a GPL GUI editor and previewer for TeX and LaTeX on the Mac.
This full featured and user friendly LaTeX editor and previewer makes typesetting on the Mac a simple and pleasant task.
The editor provides the expected syntax highlighting, and the toolbar has pulldown menus that allow the user to quickly add common syntax, or even larger blocks such as image templates. A GUI panel expands these options, making the addition of anything from greek letters to text formating to mathematical expressions a breeze, even for new users who may not have all of the required syntax memorized. Another pulldown lets the user select section headings from the text and quickly move about the TeX file.
The previewer makes inspection of generated documents quick and easy. One feature that really stands out (despite being a rather small touch) is that when changes are made, the position in the document that is displayed in the preview window is maintained. That means that it is not necessary to scroll back to find a previous position and see if any corrections are satisfactory. Again, a small point, but little things like that really improve the user experience.
