Talk:Secure virtual memory
From Applepedia
How about:
sudo cd /Volumes/the disk to clean/private/var/vm/; srm -z swapfile*
reboot
Done!
- No, the point is you have to clean the whole disk, as there is gona be shit from your swap all over it's unallocated space.

Two questions
- What documentation has Apple released about this feature? The apple website seems pretty silent on the topic. The term "secure virtual; memory" suggests more to me than encrypted swap; I'd expect to see an encrypted disk cache in there at the least, else your FileVault doesn't really offer copper-bottomed protection...
- How does the technology stack up as a proection against Forensic Tool style password sniffing? In principle, it's effective, in practice it depends on other password-handling software not doing anything dumb like writing passwords out to temp files and so on. One can inspect program behaviour to see whether this happens: has anyone actually done this?
