Nothing like a fresh, supple, virgin install of OSX to get the creative juices flowing, but wait! I need to install some pretty applications first!

Text Editors
- TextWrangler - A free editor made by the BBEdit people (formerly BBEdit Lite). Fewer features than BBEdit.
- TextMate - An up-and-coming shareware editor with a fervent fanbase. Has lots of productivity features like code snippets, macros, shell command integration, code folding, and more.
- skEdit - Supports remote file editing via SFTP, powerful search and replace, automatic code indenting/un-indenting, code navigation, and snippets. Free lifetime upgrades when you pay the shareware fee.

Internet
- Adium - Adium is an open source multi-protocol instant messaging client.
- Remote Desktop Client - Connect to a Microsoft Windows Terminal Server-enabled system.
- Thunderbird - An alternative mail program based on Mozilla Gecko.
- Unison - Probably the best newsgroup/usenet reader available for OSX
- NetNewsWire - RSS Aggregator.
- Transmit - Excellent SFTP/FTP program.
- Fugu - One of the best free SFTP clients out there.
- Chicken of the VNC - VNC client

Web Browsers
- Safari - Apple's browser, ships with Mac OS X, based on Apple's WebKit.
- Firefox - Tabs, pop-up blocking, etc. Based on Mozilla Gecko.
- Shiira - A WebKit based browser, created in an attempt to replace Safari.
- Camino - Web browser based off of the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine.
- OmniWeb - One of the oldest alternative browsers for Mac OS X.
- Opera - A 'professional', commercial browser.

Safari Enhancements
- Safari Speed - Makes Safari behave a lot quicker.
- fiwt - A find-as-you-type add-on for Safari.
- Sogudi - Do keyword searches in the Address bar of Safari with this add-on.
- Saft - Tab rearranging, kiosk browsing mode, IDN spoofing detection and other small enhancements.
- Acidsearch - Google search customization.
- SALastRead - Originally made for Firefox, SALR has been ported to Safari for all of those who dislike Firefox.

IRC Chat
- Colloquy - A basic IRC client.
- Conversation - An iChat style IRC client.
- X-Chat Aqua - A multiplatform IRC client ported to OS X.

Multimedia
- VLC - Plays just about any video you can throw at it.
- Audio Recorder - Small audio recorder that outputs to mp3, handy for lectures.
- Handbrake - Very easy to use DVD ripper.
- MPlayer OS X - Another media player, plays some files that VLC can't.
- ffmpegX - One of the best all-in-one video encoding software packages for OSX.
- ImageWell - Lets you quckly resize/crop/etc image files, and then automatically upload them to your webspace or idisk.
- FFView - It can read those wacky cbz and cbr files, I.E. COMIC VIEWER.

Home & Hobby
- Delicious Library - Use an iSight to read barcodes from all your DVDs, CDs, books, and video games. Catalogue them, know who you've lent to, and find info and similar items.
- Meteorologist - A nice little freeware, bloat-free weather app.
- Heredis - A shareware app that assists in tracking your genealogy.
- BluePhoneElite - A cool shareware app that integrates your Bluetooth phone with your Mac. Besides SMS and Caller ID, it boasts some really neat proximity sensing features (pausing iTunes when you leave the room, etc.)

Interface Enhancments
- CandyBar - Change the default Finder Icons using this app.
- iTerm - A nice terminal replacement with tabs, bookmarks and more.
- Quicksilver - Great program for launching apps, manipulating files, controlling iTunes, and much MUCH more.
- Synergy - A great extension for iTunes, album artwork automatically from the web and slickly displays it in a customizable bubble on your desktop.
- mail.appetizer - Pops up a window when you get new mail in mail.app.
- Growl - A system wide notification system used by many third party applications.
- Konfabulator - A Dashboard-esque framework that can be used to open widgets.
- Desktop Manager - A virtual desktop manager with very cool transitions between desktops.

- MacStumbler - A wireless network scanner.
- KisMAC - Another wireless network scanning program.
- iStumbler - Network scanner that picks up on Bonjour and Bluetooth

System Tools
- UnRarX - Unrar your rar files.
- Roxio Toast Titanium - One of, if not thet best OSX burner apps.
- Carbon Copy Cloner - Excellent way to make disk images of fresh installs. NOTE: CCC does NOT work under 10.4 or 10.4.1. Now, under 10.4.2, CCC works again. BUT, in order to work correctly, you should do the following: ONE: in the System Preferences, open the "Spotlight" prefs and in the "Privacy" area, drag the drive you want CCC to clone TO (the target drive). After this, open CCC and make sure the ".Spotlight-V100 directory" is NOT cloned. This will allow CCC to work under Tiger properly!
- MenuMeters - Displays network, disk, RAM, and CPU monitors in the menu bar.
- Calendarclock - Replaces your system clock with a drop-down calendar that reads the iCal database.
- SSHKeychain - A GUI ssh key agent that uses the Keychain.
- PGP - PGP is a very secure way to encrypt files.
- Unix package management utilities available in the Unix/X11 section of Software Gold.
