Uses
[edit]
Enable root user
The root user in OS X is disabled by default, for security reasons. If you really need it, you can use the NetInfo Manager to enable it, by opening the NetInfo Manager, and in the Security menu, first Authenticating, then selecting Enable root user.

/etc/hosts alternative
If you prefer not to use /etc/hosts, you can use NetInfo Manager to add IP equivalents to domains instead.
- Open the NetInfo Manager.
- Click the lock to unlock it.
- Go into the machines node.
- Add a new child with the New button. Change the name to the domain you want to link an IP to.
- In the Directory menu, add a new Property.
- Change the name of the property to ip_address, and as the value set it to the IP address.
- Quit NetInfo, saving changes. It should work right away.
