What is it?

The Mac Megathread is currently in its second iteration. It is a thread with nearly 30,000 posts - and it's still growing. It was created as there is seen as no need for a subforum. It is a place reserved mainly for discussion these days, and occaisional tech-support. It is preferred if users post their own threads for individual problems, using the "Fruity" tag.

Update: Looks like the megathread is on it's way to the archives soon. Petition for either a Mac sub-forum in SH/SC or A new Mac Icon!

Update-Update: Radium did a great service to us all, and added per-forum thread tags! Huzzah!
Update-Update-Update: Shortly before the closing of the Megathread, on page 799, El Jackalope opened up a monthly discussion thread. The idea was a continuation of the chatty spirit of the Megathread, without growing another database-destroying monster. Unfortunately, Ozma gassed the thread when it had only reached three pages, saying:
The whole reason we wanted to steer away from megathreads wasn't just because it is a huge drain on the server to have an enormous thread, guys. A "mini" form of the same old thing is not good. We gave you a "mac" tag now and we're trying to encourage you to not only post new threads for this topic but also put some thought into it. These megathreads just encourage circlejerking and shit posting. Let's not do this.
Tens of Megathreaders are assumed to be sobbing uncontrollably in the vicinities of San Francisco and Fire Island.

The great Sub-forum debate

I'm opening a huge can of worms here.

Megathread

Pros:

  • Cozy atmosphere
  • Easy to hop on and read every post (if you can keep up)

Cons:

  • Hard to find stuff
  • Moves at an amazing speed
  • "These megathreads just encourage circlejerking and shit posting." --Ozma

Fruity tag

Pros:

  • Seperate threads for everything
  • Invites PC users into the threads more

Cons:

  • New users won't know to use it

Subforum

Pros:

  • Everything's in one place

Cons:

  • We'll become shut-ins, no "fresh air" from PC users
