Your MAC address is an address that uniquely identifies your computer's network card or cards.

Finding your MAC Address

There are numerous ways of finding your MAC address.

Navigate (in Finder) to Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility it's listed as "Hardware Address". Or open System Preferences and click the Network icon at the top of the window to see a list of your network interfaces; double click on whichever you want.

Ethernet

  • Navigate to the last tab called Ethernet and see Ethernet ID, that's your MAC address.

AirPort

  • The first tab is called AirPort contains AirPort ID with your AirPort card's MAC address.

Using the Terminal

Open Terminal and type ifconfig to see your network interface information. Try the following to only get your MAC address or addresses returned

ifconfig | grep ether

  • Bluetooth
  • Dial-up Modem
  • IP over Firewire
