In April 2003, Apple made the third major update of the iPod. The case was redone, and the whole player was made smaller and slimmer. The mechanical buttons around the scroll wheel were replaced with touch-sensitive buttons above the wheel. In order to make the iPod slimmer, the FireWire connector was removed, and replaced with a special dock port. A dock was also sold, which allowed you to simply plop your iPod down to sync and charge it.

The disk sizes were bumped, and prices lowered. Games were added to the iPods software, where before you could only access a "Breakout" game as an easter egg in the About screen.

Size bump

In September, the disk sizes were bumped, adding 20 GB and 40 GB models.
