General
Grab allows you to capture your screen or portions of it in four different ways
- Selection (Shift+⌘A) - A portion of your screen that you manually draw
- Window (Shift+⌘W) - A single window
- Screen (⌘Z) - Your entire screen
- Timed Screen (Shift+⌘Z)- Screenshot on a time delay
Files are saved to your Desktop in TIFF format. You can easily convert them to other formats using Preview.

Capturing
First open Grab which is located in /Applications/Utilities/

A Window
- Choose Capture > Window (Shift+⌘W).
- When the Window Grab dialog opens, make any other changes to the window you want to take a picture of, then click Choose Window.
- Click the window you want to capture.

Screen Selection
- Choose Capture > Selection (Shift+⌘A).
- Move the pointer to a corner of the area you want to capture.
- Drag the pointer across the area and release the mouse button.

Entire Screen
- Choose Capture > Screen (⌘Z).
- When the Screen Grab dialog opens, click outside that window

A menu
- Choose Capture > Timed Screen (Shift+⌘Z).
- When the Timed Screen Grab dialog opens, click Start Timer.
- Click the menu you want to capture and keep the mouse button pressed until the Timed Screen Grab dialog closes and the picture appears.
In your Grab preferences (⌘,) you can select what your pointer will look like in your saved screenshot image. The default option is to have no pointer
