Why?
- Those were days in which you could tell that somebody was using a computer in the next room by the occaional loud swear word, followed by the phrase "I just lost a week's work," and another swear word.
- Those were days in which the Apple Macintosh stood out like a special-forces soldier picking up his kid from nursery school. The Mac, very much unlike the PC, worked well and dependably. This was the case because everybody who contributed to its design was required to exactly follow certain rules, which were laid out in a single big fat book called Inside Macintosh. Over the years, Inside Macintosh grew to be many volumes of big fat books. If a person did not follow the guidelines in those books, Apple would not approve his program, and the program would not be included in the world of Macs, simple as that.
- Game developers do not like to follow rules, so nobody made games for the Macintosh. Simple as that.
- -The Fat Man (Buy his book)
- Note: Games with (hybrid) appended to them are sold as hybrid cd's, or cd's that run on both Mac and Windows (Useful for those switching from PC to Mac.)

Game Companies
- Inside Mac Games has reviews and stuff.
- Mac Game Files has all the demos and freebies you'll ever need, and unlike fileplanet, you don't require paid (or any!) subscription for nice, fast downloads.
- Aspyr does a lot of ports from PC companies.
- Macsoft also does ports.
- Blizzard has ported all of their recent games, of course.
One very cool thing about the Mac is the shareware community, which has been around for forever (yes, forever). Believe it or not, there are some excellent Mac-only and Mac-centric games and game companies.
- Ambrosia is a really cool company, with lots of original games. Their first hit was (I think) Escape Velocity, which I played for hours and hours on my old '040 :). They also make some Mac OS X utilities.
- Pangea Software created the famous Nanosaur and Bugdom games, and have several other Mac games that are worth checking out.
- Freeverse has a huge lot of Mac games in many different genres, from RTS to online RPG to solitaire to arcade.
- Cyan Worlds, Inc. was formed in 1987 by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller, creators of the bestselling Myst series.
