Website Boot Camp

Boot Camp is a set of drivers and a small utility that enable Intel-based butans to boot Windows. It is a beta, and the site says the technology will appear in Leopard.

From what I can tell, it is a util that lets you partition your disk, burns a CD full of Windows drivers for Mac hardware, adds a different boot loader, and installs Windows (your own copy, of course.) Apple has a nice setup guide and a fairly lengthy FAQ on their site.

Contents

Included drivers

The driver CD that Boot Camp burns contains these drivers:

  • Intel Chip Set Software (6.2.1)
  • ATI Graphics (8.24.0.0)
  • Intel Integrated Graphics (6.14.10.4512)
  • Marvel Yukon Ethernet (8.49.2.3)
  • SigmaTel Audio (1.0.4889.0 nd375 cp1)
  • SigmaTel Audio proto_A2 (1.0.4889.0 nd375 cp1)
  • Atheros 802.11 wireless (AirPort) (4.2.2.4)
  • Broadcom Wireless (4.10.40.0)
  • Apple Bluetooth module (1.0.0.1)
  • Apple Keyboard Eject Key (1.0.0.1)
  • Apple Keyboard Brightness (for computers with built-in displays) (1.0.0.1)
  • Startup Disk Control Panel for Windows XP (1.0.0.1)
  • Built-in iSight (1.1.1.0)

Things that are Broken

What you need

  • An Apple Computer running an Intel CPU
  • A blank CD-R
  • A copy of Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2. (SP2 is requried for SATA support, so you have to either have an updated copy, or slipstream SP2 into your copy. Limited success has been reported using SP1 and updating with Windows Update after installation, but the original release does not work at all.)
